Chalkboard paint is a versatile substance that allows you to create a chalkboard surface anywhere. Today in this article we have come up with some simple DIY techniques of how to make a mini chalkboard using the same Rust-Oleum Chalked Ultra Matte paint, take a look!!


Step 1: General Preparation

First and foremost, gather all the materials you will require for making a mini chalkboard at one place. These include sand paper, cleaning cloth, stir stick, foam brush, painter’s tape, chalkboard paint, and of course a wooden board. Now, take all these materials outside or in an open area.

Step 2: Sanding

Now, cut the board to the desired dimension. Next, sand outside of the board using medium grit sandpaper and later finish it off with some finer one. If you don’t plan to cover your mini chalkboard in a frame that it is recommended to sand the corners and sides nicely so they no longer feel sharp. But, if you thinking of making a frame for your board, you don’t have to make much effort in smoothening the sides. Afterward, use a lint-free cloth to wipe all the sanded dust away.

Step 3: Painting

The painting is an essential part if you want to learn how to make a mini chalkboard. To do the needful, first stir the Rust-oleum Tint Base Chalkboard paint thoroughly. Now, use a use a high-quality foam brush to apply a liberal coat to the center of the wooden board, avoiding excessive brushing. Apply 2-3 coats of chalkboard paint to get a better result. After completing all the coats, let the painted board dry thoroughly or at least for 24 hours.

Step 4: Prepare the Board for its First Use

Before you start using the board, first take one stick of chalk lengthwise and run it all over your DIY chalkboard, covering it totally in chalk. Afterward, wash the chalk off again using a wet lint-free cloth. Either dry the board with a lint-free cloth or towel or let it air dry. Finally, your new mini chalkboard is ready for its first use!
