So, if you got an empty wall space that is in need of a little excitement, try this DIY decorative communication station that we made in a few simple steps using Rust-Oleum Specialty DRY Erase Kit and some household products.

Step 1: General Preparation

Supplies for Job

First of all, you need to gather all the supplies that you will require to do this paint job at one place. Maybe you already have most of these items at your home. But maybe not, so here is a complete list of things that I used to make this communication station, take a look!!

  • Picture Frame
  • Level
  • Paint Stir Stick
  • Foam Roller
  • Paint Tray
  • Painter’s Tape
  • Drop Cloth
  • Pencil
  • Rust-Oleum Specialty Dry Erase Kit

Step 2: Prepare Your Space

Lay Down a drop Cloth

Preparing the space of your wall to-be painted is the first step towards a quality paint job. To do the needful, first wash it off with soap and water, then rinse and let it dry thoroughly. Just like we used some frames to display these dry erase communication station, you can also use your own desired frames.

Note: To protect surrounding areas from drips, lay your drop cloth down next to wall being painted.

Step 3: Measure and Trace the Space

Measure and Trace the Space

To measure, simply take a frame that you choose for such task and trace its interior portion using a pencil or marker. Use a long level to ensure a straight line on the wall. Do the same for each frame.

Step 4: Tape the Trace Line

Tape the Trace Line

Once you have traced the inside of the picture frame, it’s time to tape the outside edge of your traced lines using painter’s tape. This will help you in keeping things clean while painting.

Note: Painting over a dark colored wall can be quite difficult. So, it is recommended to prime the dark surface prior to application of the dry erase paint. It aids in achieving the exact result you desire.

Step 5: Pour and Mix the Dry Erase Paint

Pour and Mix the Dry Erase Paint

After you’ve finished taping, you can start applying the paint on the picked space. First, stir Part A and Part B separately. Then, pour Part an Activator into Part B Base. Now, stir components together using a stir stick and make sure the paint is uniform in color. As the paint is completely stirred now, starts painting straight away.

Note: Keep in mind to apply activated dry erase paint within 60 minutes of mixing.

Step 6: Paint

Paint

Use high-quality form roller to apply activated dry erase paint. Start rolling the paint until the area is covered.  Use light, even strokes to ensure a smooth finish. Let it dry for 10-15 minutes before starts applying the second coat. Repeat a third time on darker surfaces. After 1 hour of completing all the coats, remove the tape used to mask the area. Now, allow painted surface to dry thoroughly or at least for three days before applying any markings. Afterwards, hang your frames over the painted areas and start enjoying your new communication surface! To maintain your surface, use dry erase cleaner to remove any markings that might remain following erasing.
