Chandeliers are dangling light fixtures which can add to or reduce from the overall decor in any room. Brass chandeliers are indicative of decades past, but you can upgrade a brass chandelier with a little creativity and some spray paint. Renovate the dated, glittery brass into a centerpiece that can match many different decorating styles. Keep the unique crystals if you want the sparkle or change them out for hues that coordinate with your room’s design.

How to Upgrade a Traditional Brass Chandelier

Things you’ll need

  • Brass Chandelier
  • Painter’s Tape
  • Can of Spray Primer
  • 3 Cans of Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Acrylic Spray Paint
  • Spray Paint Can Handle
  • Sheet Plastic
  • Globe Chandelier Bulbs

Prep for Paint

You need to protect the floor and surrounding areas with plastic sheeting. Get rid of the light bulbs and the crystals from the brass chandelier. Utilize a damp cloth to wipe dust from chandelier, take away socket sleeves then cover sockets with painters' tape. If you plan to utilize the same crystals on your updated chandelier, wash them with glass cleaner.

Prime Surface

First, shake the can of spray primer for at least one minute then attach snap-on handle to can's top. With can six inches from surface, gently pull spray handle back and prime chandelier utilizing controlled pressure on handle. Avoid drips by covering areas to be painted with an excellent coat of primer, being cautious not to spray one area for too long. Allow primer to fully dry for around an hour.

Re-connect the washed crystals to the chandelier. One more way to upgrade the chandelier is to modify the color of the crystals to match with your new look. Add crystals to upgrade a plain chandelier. Paint craft wire so you can make crystal hangers to match the chandelier base. Cut small strips of wire and wrap them around the arms of the chandelier anywhere you’d wish to hang a crystal!

Tips

  • You can find crystals at custom lighting stores or online. Once all of the crystals are attached, you need to reinstall the light bulbs.
  • You should look for glass trays that can fit over the light fixture.
  • You should paint the chain that holds your chandelier.
