How to protect yourself from dengue?
Dengue, formerly known as “break-bone fever” is a tropical viral disease and has become a global problem in the recent decades. The dengue virus is transmitted by infected mosquitos. Aedes mosquito is a genus of mosquitoes that spread this fever. The dengue-causing mosquitoes bite during the day, particularly in the morning and evening and infection can be acquired by a single bite. So how you will protect yourself from this mosquito bite? How is dengue fever becoming viral?
Suppose, a person is bitten by an Aedes Mosquito and then bitten by another mosquito (Non-Aedes). Now, the dengue virus is transmitted into Non-Aedes mosquito. So now, if Non-Aedes will bite another person, the virus will be transmitted into his/her body.
Following are the symptoms of Dengue Fever
- Headache.
- Nausea & vomiting.
- Fever up to 41°C.
- Pain behind eyes.
- Pain in bones, muscle, and joints.
- Bleeding from nose and gums (rare).
A person will feel all above symptoms after 4-10 days after bitten by an infected mosquito. Therefore, if you are feeling these then you must go to a doctor at the earliest. Below are some tips that will protect you from this viral fever.
Step 1: - Full Sleeve Loose Clothing
Covering body will reduce the chances of being bitten. You can decrease chances by wearing full sleeve loose shirts, t-shirts and pants.
Step 2: - Paint Exterior Wall with Insecticide Paint
This is a great idea to keep insects away! Just paint your exterior walls with insecticide paint or you can use Rust-Oleum Insecticide Paint Additive which is compatible to use with any oil or latex paint. Just add insecticide additive to your paint and apply it on exterior walls.
Step 3: - Use Mosquito Net
Sleep inside the mosquito net. Make sure that there are no openings.
Step 4: - Use Mosquito Repellent
You can use mosquito repellent to protect yourself when are out of doors. This is best for adults and children that are above 2 months. You should use carrier draped with mosquito netting for children that are below 2 months.
Step 5: - Switch off Your Lights during Night
Light attracts mosquitoes. So, if possible, switch off your lights during the night to keep yourself away from them. You should close windows and doors when lights are on.
Step 6: - Rid of Standing Water
Mosquitos breed in standing water. The areas where they breading are uncovered water storage barrels, buckets, flower pots, tires, coolers etc. It will reduce the population of mosquitoes if you will rid of standing water from these areas. You must cover your water storage tanks, buckets, and barrels. Clean your coolers in a week. This will also reduce their population.
